EN The dynamics of changes taking place in the modern world forces organizations of every kind to constantly search for new solutions to manage their potential. Depending on the type of business conducted, new needs arise that radically change both the structure and the daily management practice. A similar situation is currently found in the management of defence resources by the largest political and military alliance that NATO has been for years. The issue of the article has been focused on three basic thematic areas constituting its essence. The first part analyses the contemporary security threats in the global world of the 21st century, pointing to such phenomena as illegal immigration or international terrorism. In the further part of the article, the authors presented new types of military activities, including, among others, hybrid war and analysed a new approach to conducting military operations. All considerations were summarized in the third part of the study, which was devoted to the analysis of directions of changes in the command and management process, characteristic of the NATO countries. The research problem to be solved was formulated in the form of a question: what innovative solutions are currently being implemented in the practice of managing the defence potential of the NATO countries? The directions of changes in management of the defence potential of NATO countries, presented on the basis of the conducted research, at the same time constitute a recommendation for the authors to modify the solutions functioning in this area and indicate the priorities in the process of development of their military strategies.
