EN The aim of the article is to present the essence of knowledge management in the context of contemporary social and economic changes. The fundamental research problem has been embedded in the area of using the concept of knowledge management in the process of professional development of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland (RP). The structure of the article includes two basic cognitive issues. The first one refers to general theoretical assumptions functioning in the field of knowledge management, while the second one addresses the issue of functioning of armed forces in the field of management concepts in a knowledge-based economy. The article, apart from theoretical content, presents practical aspects of knowledge management in the armed forces. The research process was based on the results of literature analysis, results of indirect non-standardised observation, as well as results of research carried out by means of a questionnaire-based questionnaire. The survey was conducted among younger officers (in the rank of captain) who participated in the Postgraduate Operational and Tactical Studies (PSOT) carried out at the Academy of War Arts.
