Abstract

EN The future security environment, replete with cultural diversity and security challenges will require leaders with greater cross-cultural competence. NATO and its allied partners will be presented with numerous challenges related to maintaining global security that will mandate the need to develop its leaders prepared to deal with culturally diverse multinational teams. Cross-cultural competence is critical for leaders to forge teams that are collaborative and cohesive. This chapter will focus on the elements of cultural diversity and the importance of developing culturally intelligent leaders with an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and competencies that will be required of them to lead in these complex and culturally diverse environments. The discussion on cultural and social competence is framed by the NATO HFM RTG 286 leader development framework.
