PL While the attention of world powers is directed towards Asia, and the crisis in the Middle East and in North Africa is deepening, Russia aspires to renew its former influence. Two armed conflicts have recently taken place directly affecting the security of Poland, the Baltic states, and thus NATO itself. The first one was the war in Georgia fought from 7 to 15 August 2008 between Georgian troops and the combined forces of Ossetians, Abkhazians and Russians. The second conflict directly influencing the security of Poland is the war in Ukraine, which started in February 2014. With regard to the above, the members of the Alliancegathered at the summit in Warsaw redefined the foundation of the translatic security and confirmed that it does not only boil down to the choice between traditional defensive functions and participation in foreign missions. Today, Russia's actions are biggest challenge for NATO since the end of the ISAF operation in Afghanistan, whereas the priority of the future actions undertaken by the Alliance should be the defense of NATO's eastern borders.Nowadays, NATO is trying to show that it is the quarantor of world order and security of democratic states community, and demonstrates this by declaring to place its forces for stationing on the NATO's Eastern flank.
