Abstract

EN Managing the external EU borders in not limited to only physical security measures, which are at the disposal of the Border Guard officers: GSM cameras, optoelectronic systems, ultrasonic fingerprint readers, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In the literature, it is described as a com- Artur Gajowniczek 72 pensatory element introduced due to the abolition of internal border controls between Schengen member states. The system is continuously altered and improved. The currently functioning Schengen Information System (SISII) is used by courts, prosecutor’s offices, border guard, customs service, police, and authorities responsible for implementing regulations related to the relocation of third states’ citizens and the exchange of information on, e.g. missing or wanted people, or people who have been denied right of entry and right to stay.
