Abstract
NO Østersjøukene var politiske festivaler som fant sted i DDR i perioden 1958–1975. Felles for fremstillingene om Østersjøukene hittil har vært et nasjonalt perspektiv som har satt Østersjøukene inn i historien om bilaterale forhold. Denne artikkelen er et nytt norsk-dansk-polsk-tysk samarbeid som vil undersøke emnet fra flere perspektiver. Artikkelens fokus er hvordan Østersjøukene, i øst som i vest, var gjenstand for overvåkning. Som et produkt av lettere tilgang til arkiver, vil artikkelen ha sitt tyngdepunkt i Norge og sikkerhetstjenesten POT. Artikkelen representerer således en ny retning i forskningen om den kalde krigen, hvor forskere fra Skandinavia og Øst-Europa samarbeider for å skape nye og felles perspektiver på konflikten som delte det europeiske kontinentet i mer enn førti år.
EN The GDR used a wide variety of measures to spread their political messages to the people of «non-socialist countries». The Baltic Weeks, for example, was a series of political festivals that took place in the Hanseatic university city of Rostock in the period 1958–75. Today we could refer to these events as public diplomacy; or, in East German jargon, Auslandsinformation or Auslandspropaganda. Until now, most representations and interpretations of the Baltic Weeks have been understood in connection to bilateral relations. This article, a collaboration between Norwegian, Danish, Polish and German researchers, examines these events from multiple perspectives with a focus on how the Baltic Weeks were subject to intelligence services surveillance from both the East and the West. As a consequence of easier access to the intelligence archives of the Norwegian PST, this article will concentrate on Norway and POT, the former name of its intelligence service. The article thus presents a new direction in Cold War research where researchers from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe collaborate to create new and shared perspectives on the conflict that divided the European continent for more than 40 years.
