Abstract

EN The aim of this article is to analyse the present and potential applications of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in military logistics. The research problem is: What are the present and future applications of unmanned aerial vehicles in the strategy for development of Polish Armed Forces logistics? The present and proposed applications of unmanned aerial vehicles in both civilian and military logistics (in the frame of its present and future challenges) have been defined in order to evaluate the possibility of UAV use. It was also underlined that at the current technological development level, UAVs are remotely controlled by operators. The adequately trained personnel is required for the installation, maintenance and service of a flying platform and its systems, i.e. sensors and weapons. It should be remembered that the operator’s work depends on the sustainment of UAV communication systems controlling the platforms and collecting relevant information from a battlefield. Then the potential advantages and risks of using such systems have been analysed by SWOT method. The obtained SWOT analysis result promotes the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in military sector. Finally, some recommendations regarding present and proposed future UAV applications have been expressed to be included in the strategy for Polish Armed Forces logistics development.
