EN A common slogan which is used in many aviation organizations “Safety first and always’’ – is not true. It is understood that safety is “a state in which the possibility of bodily injury or property being reduced and kept at an acceptable level or below this level through a continuous process of risk identification and safety risk management” [ICAO 2013, p. 17]. However, this condition often does not match the reality, referring to the use of desirable practices in the field of aviation safety. Safety is not, has never been and probably will never be a permanent and undisturbed state because all products of human activity and elements of human activity related to them are only relatively safe. Aviation safety is the condition according to which the assumed goals of the aviation organization are implemented in conditions of maintenance under the control of all potential risks that may jeopardize their implementation. The article presents the results of the analysis of safety occurrences from 1919–2017, on the basis of the data posted in Aviation Safety Network Database and in the reports of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other organizations. The purpose of this research was to identify previously unrealized common features of these events relating to the place, time, etc., the occurrence of an aviation accident. Key words: safety, aviation safety occurrences, air accidents and incidents
