EN Polish national security is based on the defense industry, alongside the Polish Armed Forces. The industrial defense potential is therefore an important element of national security. It will be described as Polish defense industry resources, designed to meet the needs of the Polish Armed Forces in terms of armament and military equipment. The main tasks of defense companies are supplying the Armed Forces with weapons and equipment, transfer of technology and technical know-how, strengthening country’s political and economic position. The war in Ukraine caused by Russia shows how important a strong defense industry is for the state security. The above-mentioned war has become a verification of the effectiveness of the military equipment, highlighting any shortcomings, unsecured supply chains and other errors that should be immediately corrected in order to improve functioning of this strategic sector. History of this branch of Polish economy additionally proves its strategic importance. World War II caused extensive losses to all industries, including armament production. The situation after that conflict and the terrible condition of the Polish defense industry factories was harrowing. Non-sovereignty in arms production and omnipotence of the USSR authorities in that filed crippled Polish defense companies' abilities. It was only in the light of the deterioration of USSR the international position that the communist authorities gradually began to transform the Polish armaments industry. This policy change led to an increase in the production of defense products, but this industry remained subordinated to Soviet needs. Main goal of the Polish arms sector was to strengthen the military and political position of the USSR; therefore, production was carried out under Soviet licenses, and Polish companies have been deprived of the right to independently manage its products.
