Streszczenie
EN The local development of county districts is stimulated by many factors. Undoubtedly, one of them is the presence of a military unit in the area. Although the local government can benefit from this, the presence of a military unit can also cause a number of problems. The aim of this paper is to determine the social-economic development of the communes of the Węgorzewo county, where a military unit is deployed, by comparing the situation in 2009 (before changes in the unit) with that in 2015 (after a number of changes had been introduced). This development will be presented by means of Hellwig's development gauge. Necessary data were collected by issuing a request for information to 11th Artillery Regiment Headquarters, offices of the communes and starosty of the Węgorzewo County, as well as from generally available data of the Central Statistical Office and the Statistical Office in Olsztyn.
