EN The aim of the chapter is to present the process of establishing a new custom in international law as a result of the actions made by microstates in Oceania. The new international practice consists of depositing maps with lists of geographical coordinates of maritime borders at the United Nations. The geographical scope of this legal analysis covers the Pacific Islands region, called Oceania. In some contexts, Oceania also includes Australia and New Zealand because of the Pacific Islands communities and indigenous people. By deposing coordinates to the Division of Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, states and territories in the Pacific secure not only their territory, being one of the main components of statehood and sovereignty, but also the core aim of international law – ensuring peace and stability in the world. Losing territory, both maritime and terrestrial due to climate change, is unprecedented, requiring unprecedented means to protect rights and duties of states with their ever-vulnerable
