EN Military personnel with unique training needs often face physical risks and must make quick decisions. Virtual Reality (VR) training systems, tailored to their specific requirements, offer a potential solution that addresses their physical challenges and enhances their decision-making skills. This study, conducted among 131 military personnel from a Polish civil-military university, aims to explore preferences for VR military training, focusing on training courses and the qualities of the virtual learning environment. The research method relied on the qualitative and quantitative analyses of respondents’ answers using NVivo software. According to the results, VR has many applications in military training, such as impossible and difficult missions, combat training, situational awareness, shooting, and pilot training. Additionally, VR was noted for its role in performing simulations. Regarding the qualities of the learning environment, respondents emphasised the importance of instructional design, balanced scenario design, virtual space design, sound design, support from a teacher, and support from IT staff. Factors such as narration and avatar design were considered less important. This investigation underscores the significance of VR in facilitating effective military training with a specific focus on the learning environment design.
