EN The chapter is devoted to the only binding legal act governing computer crimes – the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime of 23 November 2001. It is the first international agreement concerning cybercrime. It is not the only convention related to this subject matter; however, it has the most extensive coverage. It is not limited to the Council of Europe Member States only, as over 20 states outside our continent have adopted it. Its objective was to create a legal framework for prosecuting computer crimes. It includes substantive law provisions (definitions and types of offences), criminal procedures and international cooperation. The Convention on Cybercrime – although it was created over 20 years ago (in the case of the development of information technologies it is “eternity”) and therefore outdated – has not been replaced by another act of international law.
